clash of the alter-egos

Word is spreading around the office. The blog is getting some extra hits. And my boss wants a cake for her daughter! Ironically she wanted a cake for a Sweet Sixteen Hannah Montana party. Hannah Montana vs. Miley Stewart .... Sarah Simon vs. simplysarahsimon. My day job and my night job combined....It was the perfect clash of alter-egos! Channeling my inner sixteen year old rock star, I made the cake and brought it to work with me for the "delivery". I've never heard more why-the-heck-do-you-work-here's in my whole life!...turns out the birthday girl liked it too!

  1. Someone posted your blog on my facebook newsfeed. As a fellow cake baker I had to check it out. I love it! Topsy-turvey cakes are so much fun to do!

Cakes are my closet-job too. I work in an office during the week but I've managed to get up a pretty substantial portfolio over the years baking for my friends and family. I'm very familiar with the "OPEN A BAKERY!" demands! :-) Unfortunately I've worked for a local bakery, and I know all the dirty secrets, so I KNOW I'm offering a better product.

I have hesitated do much work with fondant and I manage to get by pretty well by smoothing buttercream, but I would love to learn! Did you go to classes here in Baton Rouge?

If you ever do decide to to put that business degree to use opening a bakery, let me know. I'd love to work with you! :)

  2. Thanks Rebekah! I hate telling people this...but I haven't taken any classes. Being self taught does have its downfalls, but there are so many "how to's" online, I'm enjoying the adventure! I've been exploring modeling chocolate or "chocolate clay". It's so easy to make, and tastes a lot better than fondant does!
Opening a bakery is a long way off, but it's good to know I'd have some help! :)
